  1. US family of actors, the children of 
  2. British-born Maurice Barrymore and Georgie
  3. Drew, both stage personalities. Lionel
  4. Barrymore (1878-1954) first appeared on the
  5. stage with his grandmother, Mrs John Drew, in
  6. 1893. He played numerous film roles from
  7. 1909, including A Free Soul 1931 and Grand
  8. Hotel 1932, but was perhaps best known for
  9. his annual radio portrayal of Scrooge in
  10. Dickens's A Christmas Carol. Ethel Barrymore
  11. (1879-1959) played with the British actor
  12. Henry Irving in London in 1898 and in 1928
  13. opened the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in New
  14. York; she also appeared in many films from
  15. 1914, including None but the Lonely Heart
  16. 1944. John Barrymore (1882-1942), a
  17. flamboyant actor who often appeared on stage
  18. and screen with his brother and sister. In
  19. his early years he was a Shakespearean actor.
  20. From 1923 he acted almost entirely in films,
  21. including Dinner at Eight 1933, and became a
  22. screen idol, nicknamed `the Profile'.
